Massage oil and lotion don't wash out in a standard warm cycle. The oil heats, spreads into the fiber, cools, and sets. After a few washes that way, the sheet looks clean but smells off within an hour of use. Over time the fabric grays and stiffens.
The fix is pre-treatment before the load runs — breaking down the oil while it's still emulsified — followed by a high-temperature wash that lifts the residue rather than pushing it deeper into the weave.
